HLL Vietnam M14 vs SKS: Unlocks, Ammo & Loadout Choices

Direct answer

The M14 and Type 56 SKS are faction-specific semi-automatic rifles introduced in Update 1.5. Both are listed for level-3 Squad Leader, Rifleman, Specialist and Engineer. The M14 uses 20-round magazines; the SKS uses a 10-round internal magazine with clips. Choose around your faction and squad job rather than a fabricated cross-faction damage ranking.

Compare HLL Vietnam M14 and Type 56 SKS unlocks, ammunition, loadout weight and controller feedback, with official numbers and no invented damage tests.

Compare the published loadout numbers

The Update 1.5 notes supply ammunition and role-access data, not a complete damage-versus-distance benchmark. The M14 allowance is four magazines by default, expandable to eight, at two weight per magazine. The SKS allowance is six clips by default, expandable to twelve, at one weight per clip.

  • M14: 7.62 × 51 mm; 20 rounds per magazine; listed allowance 80–160 rounds.
  • Type 56 SKS: 7.62 × 39 mm; 10-round internal magazine; listed allowance 60–120 rounds.
  • These totals multiply the published allowances; they do not add an unverified chambered round.

A faction choice, not a universal upgrade menu

You are not choosing between two freely interchangeable weapons in every role. Start with the faction and role you are actually playing, then inspect the Barracks requirement. If an option is missing, verify the role level and installed build before assuming progression is broken. The later community post says wider role access is being discussed; discussion does not expand the currently published list.

Keep room for the squad job

Editorial advice: decide what your role must carry before maximizing ammunition. A squad leader still needs to coordinate the objective and regrouping; an engineer still needs the tools required for the agreed task. More ammunition is useful only if it serves your expected engagement pattern. Read the current loadout screen and avoid assuming that the rifle comparison establishes a universal optimal weight allocation.

Practise the reload you actually have

Use a supported training area to compare sights, shot cadence and reload feedback. Keep the exercise short and repeatable: fire from a stable position, observe when the reload completes, and return to the same target. The differing magazine systems make practice more useful than treating capacity alone as performance. This article does not claim a measured recoil pattern, reload duration, penetration value or time to kill.

Controller feedback and future balance

Hotfix 1.5.1 adds vibration and haptic effects for these rifles across platforms. A missing vibration response is therefore a different troubleshooting question from the weapon being locked. The September 25 feedback post also monitors M16 balance and requests for more role access; it does not announce a new rifle damage table. Return to official patch notes before rebuilding a loadout around a rumored buff.

Frequently asked questions

Is the M14 better than the SKS?

The official ammunition data alone cannot establish a universal winner. They serve different factions; this guide has no measured damage or time-to-kill benchmark.

Can every role use the new rifles?

The 1.5 notes name level-3 Squad Leader, Rifleman, Specialist and Engineer. Requests for wider access in the September 25 post are not confirmed additional unlocks.
